LMNOP loves Mums: Day 7
![]()
Fashion label Baobab, is all about beautiful, wearable basics for babies, toddlers and kids aged 0-6. Conceived by designer and mum, Belinda Blooman, this fuss-free clothing alternative has become renowned for it’s clean design focus, simple detailing and it’s distinctive graphic prints.
LMNOP: How many children do you have, and how old are they?
I have a daughter, Anya Isabella Frlanova, who is 6.
LMNOP: Name an activity you love to do with Anya?
We love to potter around in the garden together on the weekend. We have had a mutual fascination with our garden since she was a tiny baby, and I carried her on my hip showing her all the exciting new buds and ‘babies’, the insects, the spiders, the lizards, ‘the fairy corners’ and the scents of the flowers and herbs.
LMNOP: When and where are you happiest?
In the water. We are both cancers and we love to swim. In summer we spend most of our free time at Wylies Baths in Coogee. I love the natural beauty of the rock pools and the gorgeous old deco structure. We have our favourite place to sit, and when not in the water, Anya builds fantasy worlds with the living shells moving them from pool to pool.
LMNOP: What’s your favorite family vacation spot?
We have never vacated in the same place twice so we don’t really have a favourite, however we just spent Easter in a beautiful property above the Kangaroo valley. It was very quiet and peaceful and the children could run wild and have a marvellous sense of freedom. We went for walks on the property and through the rainforest, we saw wombats, echidnas and all sorts of bugs, and the girls played endlessly using their vivid imaginations and a variety of soft toys.
LMNOP: How are you most like your own mother?
We are ‘peas in the same pod’. We sound the same, we have similar tastes, we both adore our daughter/s. However, I have also inherited her passion for political ideas and her social conscience.
LMNOP: The best piece of advice your mother ever gave you?
‘No one can make you feel inferior without your consent’. Eleanor Roosevelt via my mother, Bunty Turner.
LMNOP: Name three things your child has taught you?
My child has taught me to relax a little and see beyond the trivialities of daily life. She’s taught me absolute selflessness and she’s given me sheer, unadulterated joy.
LMNOP: Complete this sentence. I hope my child inherits my …
… I hope my daughter inherits (her fathers complexion) and my social conscience.

LMNOP: How many children do you have, and how old are they?
My little boy’s name is Riley. He’s 4 1/2.
LMNOP: Name an activity you love to do with Riley?
We love to bake together. Ever since he could stand on a chair at the kitchen counter, he’s been baking with me. His favourite thing to make is Smartie cookies.
LMNOP: When and where are you happiest?
At my parents home, on vacation. Having our morning coffee outside on the back deck, and watching Riley play with my mum, brother or sister. Watching any one of Riley’s magic or dancing shows is at the top of my list as well. He makes his dad and I buy tickets!
LMNOP: What’s your favorite family vacation spot?
Disneyland LA. My husband and I took Riley there in 2007. It was one of the most magical 3 days we’ve ever spent together. So much fun! Watching our son experience the wonderland that Disney is, was a real treat.
LMNOP: How are you most like your own mother?
My mum is a real go-getter! She’s so driven to do anything she sets her heart to – she’s unbelievable! She’s also extremely optimistic and is always smiling. I love that about my mum. I’m pretty sure I’ve inherited all of those qualities from her.
LMNOP: The best piece of advice your mother ever gave you?
There’s no such word as ‘can’t.’
LMNOP: Name three things your child has taught you?
1. Boys can like pink too.
2. You do what you do, AND you don’t do, what you don’t do.
3. That there is nothing stronger than a mother’s love for her child.
LMNOP: Complete this sentence. I hope my child inherits my …
… optimism, drive, determination and kindness.
