Kids Instyle, Melbourne 2009: Best Show Finds # 1
Photos: Ian MacPherson.
A. Kid O Products
Kid O Products will finally make their way to Australia later this year. These unique materials help to enrich the play and learning experiences of preschoolers at home. Deep into the Forest (shown above) is part play theater and part brainteaser. The forest exercises children’s imaginations and is a wonderful depth perception tool.
LMNOP met with Kid O Founder Lisa Mahar in New York earlier this year. You’ll get to see more from this magnificent range of preschool learning materials in our next issue.
B. Rosie Flo’s Colouring Poster
UK artist, Roz Streeten’s successful Rosie Flo’s Colouring Books series have been popular for some time now. Lark introduced two new additions to the range at Kids Instyle last week: Rosie Flo’s and Johnny Joe’s House Colouring Posters. These simply-illustrated posters offer hours of drawing and colouring fun and will make great stocking fillers this Christmas. Available in September.
C. Cheeky Little Soles
Cheeky Little Soles showcased some new, cute shoe styles for babies and toddlers. We fell in love with the Baby Jane shown above.
D. Raggidy Rag Dolls
We first spotted these beautifully crafted, Australian dolls at Estella whilst in New York back in March. The Raggidy Rag Doll collection designed by Katie Graham includes 16 different dolls, all hand-made using fabric off-cuts from designer prints and vintage remnants. No two dolls are alike, making each one a limited edition, timeless keepsake.
E. Blink Designs
We showcased Blink Designs Things wall chart in Issue 7 of LMNOP. Whilst at Kids Instyle we came across another of Blink’s great designs, the Farm Silhouette Light Shade.
F. Paper Eskimo
Party people, Paper Eskimo presented some exciting new additions to their stationery and partyware collection at the show last week. New things to look out for in-store: Table runners in Pink Floss, Sherbert Blue, Blue Spots and Candy Cane Red. Ink’d party invitations, (for slightly older kids) and Paper Eskimo’s signature pearlised balloon range. We also really liked their never fade, grease proof Paper Baking Cups which will come in 8 different designs and colours to match your other partyware items.
G. The Little Dog Laughed
Loved this bamboo corduroy bunny from And the Little Dog Laughed.
H. Katsumi Komagata Little Eye Series
The Little Eye Series from Japan’s Katsumi Komagata, has been designed specifically for parents to enjoy with their children. Each set (there’s 10 in total) encourages imagination and curiosity, and allows children to interpret the beautiful, often simple visuals to make up their own story.
I. Olive’s Friend Pop
Olive’s Friend Pop received our vote for best in show. This debut collection of vintage-inspired, original clothing for little girls is ‘nostalgic playwear’, inspired by children’s apparel from Post WWII. Everything in the range is made to be played in and is produced in beautiful, but wearable, durable fabrics. The Apron Pinafore style shown above, is a modern take on an old classic – just perfect for keeping clothes worn underneath clean.
