LMNOP_Wafflish Waffle

Wafflish Waffle
By far the most exciting find at Playtime Tokyo was Japanese clothing label Wafflish Waffle. This brand launched it’s first ever collection back in 1998, and today can be found in over 100 stores across Japan and Europe. Designer, Fumi Taguchi is responsible for the magic that happens when her labour intensive designs go into production. She conceptualises each garment, then works alongside her team of artisans to create the Wafflish Waffle line. Whether it be a bib or a dress, a playful purse or a long-sleeve top, each piece incorporates details such as patchwork, fine applique, wool felting and hand stitching. This busy, Japanese mother of two is truly an inspiration. Taguchi designs and produces four collections a year – each more clever and interesting than the last.

Key styles for next season include: a kimono style outfit for newborn babies made from a soft Japanese knitted cotton; a dress (created with petal shaped layers) which can become a skirt; and pretty cloth purses and baby bibs in an assortment of shapes and sizes (all shown above).

LMNOP_Chupeta

Chupeta
These dreamy, vintage inspired shoes for infants are almost too good to wear. Our favourite style on the left – La Poétiqué sandal. All of Cupeta’s styles are made in Portugal using fine materials imported from Italy.

LMNOP_Carota

The Carota mini chair by Toshimitsu Sasaki.

SDI Fantasia
Sasaki Design International Inc. were at Playtime to present an impressive selection of children’s furniture designed by the late, Toshimitsu Sasaki. His award-winning pieces reflect the simplicity and uncluttered style of Japanese life and the craftsmanship of each item is a true celebration of his love of colour, bold shapes and well-thought-out design.

LMNOP_Poppy

Poppy
Poppy’s charming collection delighted many visitors to Playtime in Tokyo last month. Already well-known in the UK, Poppy’s childrenswear, gifts and accessories feature the adventures of Poppy and her little dog Fred. Bryony Richardson creates the illustrations and fabric designs, which are then effortlessly translated across the entire range. The Martha dress shown above will soon feature in an upcoming issue of LMNOP Magazine.
