Best of Playtime Tokyo: #3

Pretty handmade accessories from Kubomi.
We wrap up our official coverage of Playtime Tokyo today. Here’s our final picks of the best brands and labels who were on show in Japan last month…

Kubomi
Japanese label Kubomi presented an impressive collection of traditional style bonnets, mittens, caps and capes. There were plenty of delicate accessories to compliment the range too. Key pieces include: glass hairpins and beaded clips; swan shaped scarfs and duck bibs; stripe, polo neck tees complete with fabric butterflies on the sleeves; and a plush, grey winter cape for girls with a matching cap and coin purse.

Inge van den Broeck
This eye-catching fall/winter 2010-2011 collection from Inge van de Broeck is packed with bright colours, bold checks and stripes, kaleidoscopic knits, and quirky finishes. The designer’s own playful personality can be seen throughout the range and her love of dressing children in colour is infectious.
Each garment carries a signature ‘kiss’ and is made using only the best quality, natural materials from Belgium and Portugal. Key styles for winter include: warm cardigans for girls, paired with check print dresses; sparkly tights in berry red and silver; ponchos made from custom-made knits and colourful scarfs for boys and girls.

Coq en Pâte éditions
Coq en Pâte éditions produce pieces that are destined for little kids and big ones too. The company favours peaceful, ecological objects made in India in a manner that respects both human beings and the environment. Their product offerings include family bags, cloth books, weekend carryalls, shopping totes, school bags and more. This popular brand was at Playtime to launch their exciting new line of animal print t-shirt kits which also come with matching jungle masks.

Milk on the Rocks
Founder and Creative Director of Milk on the Rocks, Julie Kang and her team always manage to create fun-loving motifs for their range of unisex clothes for babies and children. This new collection is no exception. A hedgehog hides in a polka dot covered top, and old-time rock stars make a special appearance on toddler tees and onesies. Stitching details and embellishments have clearly been added to the mix and although the colour palette used throughout the collection is unexpected, it somehow seems to work.
Our number one must-have piece from this new range is the Mutations fleece-lined jacket shown above. The animal kingdom features in this wacky design – each creature joined together (humorously) in odd pairs.

Lelli Kelly
There was plenty of sparkle on the Lelli Kelly stand at Playtime. Bright and cheery styles will be the go for the approaching winter season.
