Paper Dolls

Photo: Ian MacPherson.
We recently had the opportunity to photograph a rare collection of vintage ‘east meets west’ paper dolls from the 1940s and 50s. Tee Pee Jr’s Ruth Thomas found most of these exquisite paper dolls at a little flea market in Kamakura, Japan.

Each doll came with an eclectic mix of vibrantly coloured outfit changes, ranging from western inspired frill dresses to classic Japanese style kimonos.

Many of the outfits even had a front and back views. Lovely aren’t they?

Love these, I spent many hours as a little girl with similar dolls, wonder where you can get them today
