QPAC's Festival for Children

Head to Brisbane next week for a one-of-a-kind, week long cultural and arts event dedicated to children 8 years and under. The city of Brisbane will play host to Out of the Box: an exciting biennial children’s festival held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) from June 8 – 14, 2010.

Now in it’s 10th year, Out of the Box promises to be one great big playground full of fantastic artworks and happenings. The festival will be held across the Cultural Centre precinct, conveniently located in the heart of Brisbane with loads of transport options and connections.

Take in a show, attend a unique workshop, or venture through a series of magical trails. There’s lots to do at this fun festival just for kids! Here’s a few highlights:

Step inside a rainbowAmococo is a luminarium: a walk-through, giant inflatable sculpture filled with radiant light and vivid colour. 86 three-sided domes are linked to form a monumental labyrinth which will transport your whole family into another world. Presented by Architects of Air (UK).

Marvel at child circus superstars – The highly skilled child cast of Pirates will captivate you with their dazzling, daring and acrobatic antics. Watch in awe as they perform on an enormous pirate ship.

Watch a food fightMore Fun than a Wii is a boisterous comedy show for kids who love anything silly. List Operators for Kids will perform a messy mixture of stunts, sketches and food fights!

Make your own kite – Master kite-maker Tony Rice will show kids how to design, build, decorate and fly their own kite in this super fun workshop titled Flight Deck.

Make music – In their Instant Orchestra Workshop, international musicians Nico Brown and Martin Brunsden will teach 100 children how to play the Angklung: an enchanting percussive instrument from Indonesia.
