MoMA’s Arty App

Feeling guilty about their iPad obsession? MoMA’s joyful new Art Lab App will balance the scales a bit. Designed for ages seven and up, it offers dozens of ways for the whole family to explore creativity and learn about art and artists. Make a person or an animal using straight lines, construct a shape poem or collaborate on a group drawing. Other activities feature fun facts about artists – cut out shapes to make a collage like Matisse, or shake digital scraps of paper across the screen in homage to Jean (Hans) Arp’s chance collages.

You can stretch, zoom, rotate or shrink the image and play with a palette of hundreds of colours. You can even share your works with friends and family – or even MoMA – by Twitter or email if you choose.

So next rainy day, you might not be able to visit the Museum, but you could be nurturing its next exhibitor under your roof. The Art Lab App is available through the iTunes store.
